News & Highlights 1999

Aloha Girl Scouts,
Looking back, 1999 will be remembered as a thrilling and insightful year on our journey to better provide for the musical needs of our girls and their leaders...It was a year of learning better ways for us to help revitalize Girl Scout music within our community.

Music Highlights…
Kentuckiana March1999 Songfest
Songleaders, Myla, Lorie, Rena, Elizabeth, Melinda and Joyce

In March, 1999 the Kentuckiana Girl Scout Council of Louisville, Kentucky held a concert and songfest in conjunction with Little Brownie Bakers. The Cookie Company sponsored the event and filmed their 2000 cookie training video. Part of the film features the song "We Change the World / Girl Scout Rap" from "Girl Scouts' Greatest Hits, Vol.2," "The Wind Beneath Our Wings" starring the Kentuckiana Girl Scout Council! There were also several members of the Girl Scout World Choir on hand and Songleaders from the Kentuckiana Council who led the festivities. It was an awesome experience and great fun!

In September of 1999, Legend Productions Inc., re-released the Holiday Album, A World of Peace formerly known as The Princess Wish. With a new cover and addition of a new song, the title track, the digitally remixed album kept its essential acoustic elements in the lush stringed instrument setting.

The October, 1999 Girl Scouts of the USA's National Council Meeting , which convened from October 14th to October 17th in Kansas City, Missouri was an energized and inspired experience from the moment we arrived! Singing, Singing and More Singing! We Sang all our favorite Girl Scout Songs, The Brownie Smile Song, Make New Friends Song and all the Campfire Songs we could remember!

What a joy it was to participate in the Kansas City National Meeting in October of 1999! It was truly one of the high points of my life to introduce the song “Growing Strong” sung with a 100-member local Girl Scout choir and share it with the thousands of girls and women from all across our nation who attended! And what a delight for me and my staff of Legend Productions Inc., to meet some of the faces that go with the voices from the many Councils we often speak with from our Honolulu base! We departed “recharged” and raring to go!

New Millennium, here we come!

With Warmest Aloha,
Melinda Caroll
